Between Data Responsibility and Software Obsolescence
The econoMED system group helps its clients with all aspects of transparency and quality assurance in the field of operational prevention and compliance. A significant focus is placed on sensitive and personal data in these segments. Therefore, econoMED, in addition to the various existing certifications, decided to pursue the ISO-27001 certification. This is where XDEV comes in.
econoMED specializes in developing versatile technical solutions for operational prevention. The focus is on practical applications for process digitalization – including modular software architectures, custom interface development, secure data processing, and system integration. These management systems create significant relief and transparency for partner companies, allowing employees and management to focus more on their core business.

Modernization Needed to Achieve New Certification
Another logical addition to econoMED’s highly specialized portfolio is the certification according to ISO 27001. This internationally recognized standard for an Information Security Management System (ISMS) ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information – whether digital or analog. Achieving this requires significant efforts and a modernization of the existing development environment.
"For this, we needed a specialist, not only for Vaadin, but also to design a new development platform," describes Dr.-Ing. Martin Bozenhardt, former founder and now scientific advisor to the company. Eventually, a developer came across Richard Fichtner and XDEV during his research. After an initial testing phase, they decided to collaborate – and they have never regretted it since.
The Solution: Building a Future-Proof Software Architecture Together
XDEV tackled the challenge of a development environment that had reached its performance limits by implementing the desired transition to Vaadin as a framework. Always striving for the introduction of standardized processes, XDEV still worked closely with econoMED’s developers to incorporate the existing code wherever possible. “The collaboration was smooth from the start. I highly appreciate XDEV's teamwork,” says Dr. Bozenhardt.

Stepping Out of the Software Comfort Zone
This aspect often determines the success of projects that are carried out with external software service providers. After all, econoMED also employs developers with more than 20 years of experience in their field. The planned transition of systems to a Java-based foundation was therefore quite challenging for the in-house department. “XDEV motivated all of us to step out of our comfort zone,” reflects Dr. Bozenhardt.
Even more: Thanks to the knowledge exchange with the professionals at econoMED, XDEV has earned the reputation of a partner on equal terms. Dr. Martin Bozenhardt even goes one step further: “I now consider XDEV almost like part of our development department!” And this part allows econoMED’s employees to work faster and more smoothly – ultimately enabling them to create intuitive and engaging applications for customers.
