End of Life: XDEV BZSt DIP Java Client
Library for transmitting data to the Digital Inbox (DIP) of the German Federal Central Tax Office (BZSt)
What the client did
The XDEV BZSt DIP Java Client was a free open-source library licensed under Apache 2.0. It transmitted mass data to the Digital Inbox (DIP) of the German Federal Central Tax Office and supported the DAC7 reporting format for platform operators and CESOP for payment service providers.
Our goal was to make connecting to the DIP as simple as possible for developers. Using the client meant you didn't have to build XML files to official specifications or sign requests yourself. At its core was a Java client we generated from an OpenAPI specification, with a type-safe API using the builder pattern on top. Every report was validated against the BZSt's XSD schemas before submission, so errors in the data surfaced before reaching the tax office. Requests could be signed with either PEM keys or a Java KeyStore.
Experience with government interfaces
Connecting to the DIP involved more than transferring data. It meant registering with the BZSt online.portal, managing dedicated certificates for signing, building XML structures to official specifications, and working with a test environment of limited use.
Today, we apply this experience to projects that involve submitting financial data to government agencies or regulated bodies, for example at payment service providers and fintech companies.
Is the XDEV BZSt DIP Java Client still being developed?
No. We discontinued development after the BZSt changed its interface. There will be no new releases and no security updates.
Can I still use the client?
Not for submitting data to the DIP. The source code remains available on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 license and may still be modified and used commercially.
Does XDEV help with connecting to the new interface?
Yes, on request. Feel free to get in touch.
