IT-Tage 2026: Two XDEV Sessions on the Java Stack and Code Reviews

From December 7 to 10, 2026, IT-Tage takes place in Frankfurt, Germany. XDEV is back on the program, this time with two sessions: Johannes Rabauer, Senior Software Engineer at XDEV, talks about code reviews in established codebases. Richard Fichtner, CEO of XDEV, gives an overview of the Java ecosystem in 2027. Both sessions are on Tuesday, December 8.

IT-Tage is one of the largest vendor-neutral IT conferences in the German-speaking region. This year, Kongresshaus Kap Europa hosts around 300 sessions across 20 sub-conferences, plus workshops and labs. Topics range from software architecture and DevOps to AI, IT security, and open source.

“Zehn wütende Kommentare später: Geschichten über Code-Reviews, Teams und den Code von gestern”

Ten Angry Comments Later: Stories About Code Reviews, Teams, and Yesterday's Code – session in German
Tuesday, December 8, 2026 | 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. CET
Kongresshaus Kap Europa, Frankfurt, Germany

Johannes Rabauer shares what he has seen in Java teams working on established codebases. He looks at how code reviews can build trust instead of frustration, and how that improves quality without burning the team out. The talk works with stories from real projects, not with process templates.

This session is for developers and teams who work on established codebases and want to improve their review practice.

“Java 2027: So startest du (wieder) richtig durch”

Java 2027: How to (Re)Start the Right Way – session in German
Tuesday, December 8, 2026 | 1:00 – 1:45 p.m. CET
Kongresshaus Kap Europa, Frankfurt, Germany

XDEV has updated this talk for 2027. Richard Fichtner gives an overview of the current Java ecosystem: build tools, testing frameworks, current runtimes, and deployment platforms. He also looks at how AI integration and cloud-native development fit into a Java stack without adding unnecessary complexity.

Key topics:

  • Which tools and frameworks hold up in practice, and which ones only add complexity
  • How teams can develop faster and keep their applications easier to maintain
  • How to choose a stack that fits your existing architecture and stays maintainable in the long run

The session is a good fit if you're new to Java, coming back after a few years away, or bringing an older application up to date. If you've been working with Java for years, it's a chance to check whether your stack is still current.
