Java Champion
The Java Champion accolade is given to outstanding individuals who significantly shape the Java world through technical expertise, community engagement, and an independent voice. Worldwide, only a few are honored with this distinction – in Germany, there are currently only 38 Java Champions (as of 2025).
Java Champions stand out not only for their deep technical expertise as experienced Java developers or architects but also for their leadership role in the community – whether as leaders of Java User Groups (JUGs), driving forces behind open-source projects, or speakers at international conferences. They are independent in their opinions – their publications can be pro, neutral, or even critical of Oracle – and they often apply Java technologies in innovative, publicly accessible, or nonprofit projects.

Microsoft MVP
The Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) program recognizes professionals who regularly share their knowledge with the technical community. Microsoft awards the title to selected experts worldwide who contribute through conference talks, technical articles, open-source projects, or by helping fellow developers.

Worldwide, there are only 8 Oracle ACE Pros with Java as their main expertise – and XDEV's Richard Fichtner is the only Oracle ACE Pro in Germany focused on Java (as of 2025).
